Regulatory Affairs Manager manages regulatory matters and executes the strategy to ensure the organization complies with applicable regulations. Implements processes and systems to ensure that all necessary licensing, filings, certifications, and permits are processed and monitored. Being a Regulatory Affairs Manager utilizes established monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations. Anticipates new or changing regulations and coordinates with internal stakeholders to develop strategies to address changes in product, operations, or testing requirements. Additionally, Regulatory Affairs Manager investigates and addresses any reported issues of non-compliance. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Regulatory Affairs Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Regulatory Affairs Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Regulatory Affairs and Sustainability, Director or Manager 


    Responsible for the implementation and management of effective regulatory advocacy to support CropLife America’s strategic priorities, including matters that impact pesticide registrations. This position will also be responsible for leading, developing, and executing all facets of the CropLife America (CLA) sustainability, stewardship, and value chain partnership programs.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Monitor, review, and analyze relevant regulatory initiatives to determine potential impacts on the pesticide industry, and communicate to CropLife America Leadership and members.
      • Actively monitor existing and emerging federal regulations impacting pesticides, including under the Federal Insecticide Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and others, as appropriate.
      • Develop CropLife America comments, in close collaboration with CropLife America’s legal team, in response to Federal Register Notices and other calls for CropLife America input on science and policy issues.
    • Lead comprehensive sustainability efforts and outreach activities.
    • Implement CLA’s long-term sustainability strategy to execute the priorities established by the Board of Directors and to advance the overall industry impact with demonstrated results.
    • Develop methodologies to assess the success of CLA sustainability initiatives.
    • Manage and update CLA’s sustainability framework and goals.
    • Engage relevant CLA groups in sustainability programs, including the Board of Directors.
    • Assist the Vice President in the management of multiple committees, meeting groups, and projects. 
    • Initiate and maintain relationships and effectively work with key Agencies in the U.S. and internationally.
    • Establish and maintain contact with key career regulatory officials important to the achievement of CropLife America’s objectives under the direction of the Vice President. 
    • Initiate and maintain relationships with, provide leadership for, and effectively work with key stakeholders and allied organizations to address specific issues of importance to CropLife America, including the ability to solicit commitments from such organizations. 
    • Prepare effective advocacy materials including background papers, issue briefs, talking points, amendments, correspondence, and testimony for use by CropLife America representatives and allied organizations.
    • Ensure effective communication with CropLife America members and association staff on the status of relevant science and regulatory policy initiatives.

    Requirements

      

    Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure

    • Masters in agriculture (like Agronomy, Pathology, Entomology), Toxicology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or similar fields relevant to pesticide research (Manager Level).
    • PhD in agriculture (like Agronomy, Pathology, Entomology), Toxicology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or similar fields relevant to pesticide research (Director Level).
    • Experience with managing complex agricultural/regulatory/policy issues preferred.  
    • Minimum of five years of regulatory affairs or sustainability experience in a pesticides/chemicals industry or trade association setting (Manager Level).
    • Minimum of seven years of regulatory affairs or sustainability experience in a pesticides/chemicals industry or trade association setting (Director Level).
    • Five plus (5 ) years of project/issue management experience.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to distill complex and/or technical information into concise, effective, and influential communications.
    • Strong management skills to work with volunteer leadership from member companies.
    • Strong analytical, interpretive, evaluative, and constructive thinking skills.
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Strong understanding of sustainability and regulatory issues.        
    • Skilled at discussing scientific issues with government officials and other stakeholders.
    • Competency in drafting comprehensive technically relevant comments in response to regulatory initiatives on behalf of the crop technology industry.
