Regulatory Affairs Manager manages regulatory matters and executes the strategy to ensure the organization complies with applicable regulations. Implements processes and systems to ensure that all necessary licensing, filings, certifications, and permits are processed and monitored. Being a Regulatory Affairs Manager utilizes established monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with existing regulations. Anticipates new or changing regulations and coordinates with internal stakeholders to develop strategies to address changes in product, operations, or testing requirements. Additionally, Regulatory Affairs Manager investigates and addresses any reported issues of non-compliance. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Regulatory Affairs Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Regulatory Affairs Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Summary:  Oversee activity related to energy regulations affecting company residential air conditioner, heat pump and furnace products, ensuring internal stakeholders are apprised of proposed and pending regulations, interact with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies during development of regulations.

    Position Responsibilities:  Includes the following, with primary focus on residential air conditioners, heat pumps and furnace products, with a focus on multi-split and ductless products: 

    • Monitor North American federal (U.S. and Canada) and provincial (Canada) regulations that directly or indirectly affect Daikin Comfort Technologies (DCT) products. Regulations would include energy consumption or energy efficiency standards as well as test procedures.
    • Work with affected internal departments (e.g., marketing, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, etc.) to estimate the expected impact of proposed regulations on company products and the installation of the products. Develop strategies for optimal alignment of energy regulations with company goals and priorities.
    • Interact with industry trade association staff and committees to develop industry position for the regulations.
    • Interact with other stakeholders such as energy advocates, governmental regulatory agencies, utilities and utility organizations in regard to energy regulations.
    • Oversee company activity related to energy related building codes.
    • Work with internal personnel in development and implementation of departmental policy and procedures related to compliance with published energy related regulations, including regulatory agency reporting requirements.
    • Company representation / participation in key technical and regulatory committees for standards and regulations affecting company products.
    • Assist VP of Regulatory Affairs in offering evaluation and opinions on due diligence activities and provide regulatory assessment to management, including technical aspects of such federal regulatory energy (DOE), federal environmental (EPA) or federal labeling (FTC) regulations, building codes requirements (such as ICC and IAPMO), state energy and building code requirements (such as CEC), industry association activities (such as ASHRAE and AHRI)
    • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business need

    Nature & Scope:

    • Suggests company position for a given regulation.
    • Coordinates internal stakeholders’ input to obtain final company position. 
    • Dotted line interaction with legal.

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Strong regulatory knowledge
    • Capable of comprehending written regulations and how the regulations does/would affect the company’s products and processes.
    • Ability to use good judgment in investigating problems. 
    • Skill in maintaining cooperative working relations with other people
    • Aptitude for recognizing and dealing with priorities
    • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels using strong verbal and written communications skills
    • Must have strong analytical and technical writing skills
    • Must have good technical understanding of both residential and commercial HVAC systems and their applications.
    • Ability to envision a state that does not currently exist and successfully articulate the vision.
    • Excellent communication and relationship management skills with the ability to present to executive leadership in a way that inspires action

    Experience:  10 plus years of experience in HVAC design and application, or 15 plus years in related market

    Education:  Bachelor’s Degree minimum in business, engineering or other technical science People Management: N

    • Can work remote from Daikin Texas Technology Park, but would need to travel to DTTP periodically
