Registered Respiratory Therapist assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Registered Respiratory Therapist also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function. Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing. Additionally, Registered Respiratory Therapist assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians. Requires an associate degree. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification. Requires State License to Practice. Typically reports to a manager. Summary/Objective
The CRT/RRT is responsible for providing respiratory care services to patients in accordance with accepted respiratory practices. This Clinical position requires skills and experience in respiratory care. The CRT/RRT must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

Utilizes specialized knowledge of respiratory therapy principles in the provision of critical care services including but not limited to: CPR, Airway Management, and Ventilator Management: initiation, assessment, monitoring, adjustments.
Maintains high degree of competency in the operation of equipment in the Department to include trouble-shooting and minor repair.
Utilizes specialized knowledge of respiratory therapy procedures in performing diagnostic studies: bedside spirometry, pulmonary mechanics, blood gas analysis and electrocardiograms.
Selects, assembles, and checks equipment for proper function, operation, and cleanliness, including correction of malfunctions. Cleans and disinfects equipment per department policy and procedure. Utilizes supplies appropriately and assists with cost containment.
Utilizes specialized knowledge of respiratory therapy procedures in performing general therapy: including but not limited to oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, aerosol medication therapy, chest physiotherapy, volume expansion therapy, IPPB.
Assesses, conducts, monitors and modifies prescribed therapy to achieve plan of care goals and recommends adjustments as appropriate based on patient's response to therapy.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; Graduation from CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program; AAS degree in Respiratory Therapy from CoARC accredited training program preferred with 1 – 3 years of related experience.
Required License/Certifications
Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner; Current BLS (CPR) certification required with ACLS, PALS, NALS Certification preferred; NRP certification required for NICU Therapists.
