    The Operator Entry Level - Ponca City Refinery works rotating shifts on various units within the Refinery, which process or produce crude oil, petroleum coke, fuel oil, gasoline, diesel, steam, electricity, and other products. Some of the processes involved use hazardous and volatile materials under high temperature and pressure. Operators are exposed to various work conditions including outside weather and elements, blowing air, heat, noise, vibration and occasionally working from heights and in confined spaces. Operators must follow safe work practices including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In addition, Operators perform various duties required to keep their assigned processing unit/area operating safely and at specified production/run rates.

    Responsibilities May Include:
    Maintaining equipment and operations

    Climbing ladders, tanks and towers

    Taking samples/readings of various process steams

    Initiating work orders and permitting for work related to the assigned unit

    Maintaining proper and safe process operations of the operating equipment

    Communicating effectively during the shift and at shift relief regarding key process unit and equipment information

    Required Qualifications:
    Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent

    At least 18 years of age

    Hold a current valid driver’s license

    Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:

    To climb up to 250 feet in height

    To lift up to 50 pounds

    To work at least 12-hour rotating shifts, which include some weekends and holidays (Employees generally work 48 hours one week and 36 hours the next, rotating between days and nights)

    To work overtime

    To work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos

    To work near large, hot, high-speed machines

    To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat

    To work around chemicals, including acids and bases

    To work outside in harsh weather conditions

    To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)

    To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

    To perform firefighting duties

    To read technical procedures and materials in English

    To learn computer software associated with process operations

    Preferred Qualifications :
    Associates Degree and/or Certification in Process Technology or Power Plant Technology

    3 or more years of experience working as a process operator in a refinery, chemical, power, nuclear or wastewater treatment facility

    • The tentative start date for this position is February 2024. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
    **The starting hourly rate for Operator Trainee is $27.56 for the first 3 months of employment, with anticipated increase up to $29.33 after 3 months of employment. The hourly rate will increase to $30.64 after 12 months of employment. Future pay increases will be based on the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
