    At Independence Hall, we provide client-centered care and recovery-oriented treatment within a therapeutic environment. We are seeking passionate and innovative individuals to join our behavioral health programming.


    Under the general supervision of the Business Manager, the Referral Specialist will work with the admissions team to gather pertinent information from referring agencies or patients to confirm patients' eligibility and financial obligation for services. Will act as a liaison between Veterans Inc and Referring agencies, pharmacies, health plans and clinical staff. The mission is to ensure that patients meet the criteria for services at Veterans Inc. You should be able to demonstrate compassion while obtaining patient demographics and personal health information.

    WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAY TO DAY:

    • Receiving Referrals: Receive and review all incoming referrals from various sources, such as clinics, hospitals, treatment centers, and other like providers or agencies, ensuring all necessary information is included and accurate.
    • Assess and Triage: Conducting initial assessments of referred patients to determine their eligibility and appropriateness for admissions to the program, considering factors such as medical history, diagnosis, and treatment needs
    • Communication and Coordination: Serving as the primary point of contact for referring agencies and self-referring patients, communicating admissions criteria, availability, and next steps, and coordinating admissions with relevant members of the clinical and admissions team within the facilities.
    • Documentation and Recordkeeping: Ensuring accurate and thorough documentation of referral information, including patient demographics, medical history, medication lists, insurance details and communicating with referring agencies, in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies
    • Insurance Verification and Authorization: Verifying patients' insurance coverage, obtaining necessary information for admission or treatment, and coordinating financial arrangements with patients as needed.
    • Collaboration with Clinical and Admissions Teams: Collaborating with clinical and admissions teams to review referrals, discuss patient needs and coordinate care plans prior to admissions.
    • Scheduling and Logistics: Keep a wait list up to date and coordinate admission times to ensure a smooth intake process
    • Follow-up and Monitoring: Follow up with referring agencies and patients ( if necessary) to confirm receipt of referrals, address any questions and provide updates on the status to include waitlist management.
    • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Adhere to regulatory requirements, and compliance with organizational standards for documentation.
    • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
    • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.


    WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

    • Ability to understand, communicate and follow Veterans Inc. policies and procedures.
    • Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
    • Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
    • Intermediate to advanced phone skills with the ability to effectively communicate information via the telephone and in-person in a manner that is efficient and productive.
    • Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the department.
    • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English. Additional language abilities highly desirable.
    • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
    • Basic to intermediate computer knowledge and skills.
    • Knowledge and skilled at use of Electronic Health Records, Insurance Payor portals, Microsoft excel and other medical office applications.
    • Reliable transportation
    • Must be able to successfully pass a CORI or criminal background records check.
