Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Major Responsibilities

    • Assist with resident activities, assessments, and activities profiles.
    • Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and providing games/activities for residents.
    • Encourage residents to participate in recreational social activities so that all residents are involved in activities by engaging in and organizing games, crafts, religious services, parties, etc.
    • Assist Community Life Director in expanding services.
    • Provide innovative, responsible healthcare with the creation and implementation of new ideas and concepts that continually improve systems and processes to achieve superior results.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Some experience preferred in providing recreation services to residents in a health care setting.
    • Must possess current unencumbered valid state driver's license.
    • You must be qualified, compassionate, and dedicated to a job well done.
