Recreational Therapist jobs in Stratford, CT

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • United Methodist Homes, a non-profit senior living organization serving its 140-year mission to provide relationship-centered care, is currently seeking 2 Recreational Therapy Aides to work at our Wesley Village campus located in Shelton, CT in our assisted living setting: Wesley Heights.

    Shifts Available:

    • Full Time - 40 hours including every other weekend, Shift 9:00am-5:00pm.
    • Full Time - 40 hours including every other weekend, Shift 11:00am-7:00pm.

    Purpose: Assists in presenting activities to provide therapeutic recreation services designed to improve the psychosocial, physical and mental well-being of residents.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Assists in the completion of the regulations as required by state and federal mandates to contribute to the department’s effectiveness.
    • Assists in the development of planning of activities to meet residents’ individual needs.
    • Assists in the implementation of programs that meet residents’ psychosocial needs.
    • Assists in performing assessments to ensure psychosocial needs of the residents are identified and addressed.
    • Contributes to the effective operations of the department by demonstrating dependability in job performance.
    • Demonstrates commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of United Methodist Homes
    • Collaborates with all staff to maintain the safety and security of all who reside, visit, or work in the facility.

    Qualifications:Education: High School Diploma.

    Experience: One year (1) of experience in interacting with individuals in long term care. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Licensure: N/A

    Testing: Pre-placement drug test required

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
    • Organizational, written and verbal communications skills.
    • Ability to interact effectively in all contacts.
    • Ability to work independently with little or no need for direction.
    • Schedule flexibility to accommodate after hour needs of residents department as determined by the Director.
    • Must have a working knowledge of computers.
