Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • Healthcare Nursing Center is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and energetic Director of Recreational Activities. This job entails leading residents in scheduled recreational activities, which include and are not limited to singing, dancing, arts and crafts and painting.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Implements events and programs to enhance the assisted living experience and improve the resident quality of life
    • Evaluates programs to make sure the quality of programs fits the needs of all residents
    • Develops an innovative seven day a week activity program that is engaging for all residents
    • Monthly family-centered programming held on a consistent basis to promote participation and ease in scheduling.
    • Responsible for leading and implementing one-on-one, small group and large group programming according to the programming schedule.
    • Supports, encourages, and directs independent program pursuits, both individually and in small groups.
    • Supports the resident’s abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an activity.
    • Is able to manage and support programming associates, including transportation and our Bachelor's Degree in a field that lends itself to the support of vibrant living in a senior environment; marketing, education or geriatrics preferred.

    Qualifications:

    • OTR or at least 5 years of experience in activities.
    • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and influence others.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to connect and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
    • Excellent written communication skills including proper grammar and professional writing.
    • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet based applications such as web conferencing.
    • Ability to manage projects and to organize and manage multiple priorities.
    • Knowledge of senior living regulations and safety considerations for working with seniors.
    • Strong customer orientation to older adults.
    • Positive attitude, enthusiasm and energy.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
