Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Lead Recreational Therapist at Providence Child Center in Portland, OR - This position will work Full-time, Day shift

    The Lead Recreational Therapist oversees the therapeutic activities provided to the adult and pediatric residents of the nursing center. This includes overall planning and coordination in addition to day to day provision of programs for groups and individuals. Develops programs to promote and contribute to the rehabilitation effort and to provide the patient and family/caregivers with the skills and resources necessary for successful communication/leisure reintegration after discharge.

    Required qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, or related field from accredited college/ university.
    • upon hire: National Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
    • upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association.
    • upon hire: In compliance with company policy and state regulations, a Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check is required for this position.
    • 3 years Related work experience in a patient care setting.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Master's Degree. Or
    • Ph.D.
    • 3 years Working with a geriatric population.
