Recreational Therapist jobs in Merrimack, NH
Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. This is a part-time position (8-20 hours) and requires every other weekend and holiday. Flexible scheduling available. Dementia/Memory Care experience preferred, but will train the right candidate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate group activities and dementia-friendly sensory programs
- Encourage activity involvement and chart attendance
- Assist in keeping activity supplies clean and organized
- Assist with 1 on 1 activities, transport residents to and from activities
- Provide support during meal times
- Assist with outings and special events and other assigned duties
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Experience with Alzheimers/Dementia and special needs is a plus (Willing to train the right cadidate)
- Ability to self motivate
- Flexible with schedule, availability between 4-8 pm, alternating weekends and holidays are required.
