Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Recreational Therapist - Weekend PRN Shift
** This is a WEEKEND PRN position **
Position Summary: The Recreational Therapist works with patients who are experiencing an acute psychiatric, substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders to restore, remediate and rehabilitate the patient’s level of functioning and independence in life activities. Provides clinical group, individual therapies as ordered/indicated by patient need. Assures that an age-appropriate, activity program is available for patient care. Completes a recreation therapy assessment on all patients and participates in the setting of treatment goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):
Education:Must have bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited college/university. Must be required to maintain certifications in CPR and CPI.
Work experience: Previous psychiatric hospital or outpatient psychiatric treatment experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Compassionate, empathetic, and patient Demonstrates critical-thinking and active listening skills. Demonstrate completion of therapeutic RT/AT assessments as per policy Maintain knowledge of types of activity therapies appropriate to the population. Ability to perform group and individual activity therapy. Ability to effectively work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Utilize effective communication and documentation skills. Ability to establish therapeutic rapport with patients and motivate patients to participate in therapeutic activities. Ability to plan, develop, and implement intervention programs in an effective manner. Maintain patient confidentiality. Utilize effective communication and documentation skills.
