Recreational Therapist jobs in Austin, TX

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Responsibilities:

    As a Recreational Gymnastics Coach, you will be responsible for:

    • Conducting engaging and skill-building gymnastics, cheer, parkour, or tumbling classes for children of all ages.
    • Building rapport with participants and their parents to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
    • Demonstrating a patient and caring attitude while working with children, promoting their growth and development.
    • Employing creative and adaptable teaching techniques to deliver effective instruction.
    • Collaborating with the coaching team to develop innovative programs and activities.
    • Ensuring the safety of participants by supervising and providing proper spotting during activities.
    • Being an excellent communicator, both with participants and their parents, and contributing positively to the team.

    Qualifications:

    To succeed in this role, you must possess:

    • Prior coaching experience in gymnastics, cheer, parkour, or tumbling.
    • A genuine love for working with children and the patience to support their learning.
    • Reliability, emotional intelligence, and maturity in handling various situations.
    • The ability to think creatively and embrace new ideas for programming and teaching.
    • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team environment.
    • Physical capability to handle equipment, spot participants, and engage in various physical activities.
    • Flexibility to work primarily on the gym floor and occasionally in an office setting.
    • Extended experience working with children in a professional capacity.
    • A coachable mindset, open to personal growth and development.
    • Availability to work classes during morning, afternoon, and evening times, Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend availability for special events.
    • High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
