    Overview

    This position will, under general supervision of the Interim Director of Wellness and Intramurals, direct a comprehensive, multi-facetted program of wellness and intramural activities for the Claflin University Community; manage administrative, marketing and promotions for the department; lead assigned division through supporting department policies and procedures; interview, select, provide work direction and discipline of assigned student workers and volunteers; assist in the development of and maintain control of assigned budgets; manage all aspects of assigned and related projects and program development.

    Responsibilities

    Oversee the development, planning, organizing of and direct a comprehensive, multi-facetted program of Wellness and Intramural activities, including various special events and programs; assist in the scheduling of events, activities, and facilities. Manage assigned administrative projects such as department wide strategic planning, development of and updating to policies and procedures, and safety operations. Continuously evaluate program and facility offerings to best meet the needs of the University and the Community. Develop sponsorship, advertising and marketing programs for revenue and operational enhancement of programs; implement programs that educate the community on the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles. Represent the Department at assigned University functions and community events. Provide department oversight in Directors absence when assigned. Research grant opportunities, prepare written applications, and oversee selected project management. Oversee the recruitment, interview, selection process and provide work direction to part-time, volunteer and contracted recreational personnel, including officials, coaches, field maintenance workers and scorekeepers; develop and oversee work schedules to assure proper staffing levels; manage the establishment of contract amounts for instructors; negotiate contracts with service providers. Develop and conduct orientation training for new employees and volunteers; assist staff with in-service training sessions as required; assign duties to staff members. Enforce program and facility discipline policies and safety policies; discipline according to established guidelines; refer more difficult situations to appropriate authorities. Must attend evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, and workshops, and performs any other duties within the scope of this position.

    Qualifications


    Qualifications

    A bachelors degree is required. A degree with an emphasis in recreation, outdoor education, or other related area is preferred. Skills: Effective organizational, management, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Computer literacy is required. A demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required A working knowledge of financial operations is preferred.

    Certifications: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED), are required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment. A valid drivers license is required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment. Provide a variety of general information for recreation operations and programs; respond to questions and resolve complaints as needed. Perform a variety of administrative and office duties as assigned or as needed.
