POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator

DIVISION: Parks & Natural Resources (PNR)

REPORTS TO: Park Operations Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, $18.00/hr. - $22.00/hr.

Purpose of Position

The Volunteer Coordinator manages the Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) Volunteer Program This position will focus on planning volunteer opportunities and stewardship programming.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

• Creates quality volunteer stewardship experiences.
• Administers the “Adopt-A-Park” program.
• Develops and implements annual signature stewardship projects in conjunction with World Habitat Day, Earth Day, etc.
• Documents project summaries and accomplishments.
• Implements topical training relevant to a successful volunteer experience.
• Collaborates with Marketing to create and/or update materials.
• Collaborates with other divisions to determine volunteer needs for various programs.
• Recruits and evaluates volunteer applicants and groups.
• Prepares monthly reports for the comprehensive PNR division report.
• Manages the volunteer database.
• Educates staff on database and appropriate volunteer utilization.
• Plans annual volunteer appreciation/recognition events.
• Conducts site visits to assure quality of volunteer efforts such as vegetation management, tool maintenance and park impacts.
• Assists with budgeting to support programs and projects.
• Fosters relationships with local businesses for sponsorships and donations.

• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to compile and present data.
• Ability to organize and direct work of self and others.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle to conduct work activities, including pulling and backing trailers.
• Ability to train volunteers.
• Ability to interact with members of the public to resolve problems.
• Ability to operate, or willingness to learn, a variety of land management equipment and tools.
• Ability to perform certain park stewardship tasks, involving a combination of climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing 20-90 pounds.
• Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in parks, natural resources, or related field.
• Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• One to three (1-3) years’ experience in a leadership role.
• Experience training and managing groups of people to address community needs.
• Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License.
