POSITION SUMMARY:
Oversee and facilitate the SLR response to health care needs of the residents under the direction of and in collaboration with the Prescriber/Psychiatric Prescriber and/or other medical practitioners involved in the care of residents in the Cuttingsville location of Spring Lake Ranch. Ensure compliance with licensing requirements for nursing services for Therapeutic Community Residences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Licensing/Compliance
· Ensure compliance with the licensing/CARF accreditation requirements for nursing services for Therapeutic Community Residences.
· Maintain resident privacy by keeping private information confidential in accordance with federal HIPAA legislation, federal confidentiality laws governing alcohol and drug information as specified in 42CFR, State of Vermont confidentiality laws, and Spring Lake Ranch policies and procedures.
· Create and maintain nursing care plans in compliance with licensing regulations.
· Oversight of infection control policies and procedures
Medication Administration
· Oversee and carry out medical orders for residents given by the Prescriber/Psychiatric Prescriber and other medical practitioners.
· Train and certify non-medical staff in medication administration.
· Maintain coverage schedule for the med room, coordinate vacation and time off coverage.
· Serve as liaison with pharmacy and ensure that medications are ordered and made available in a timely manner.
· Check accuracy of pharmacy MOTs (Medicine On Time).
· Ensure that controlled medication counts are being done as appropriate and determine the source of any errors or differences. Oversee and update EMR documentation of medications.
Resident Care
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident medical records.
· Collaborate closely with Admissions, complete nursing intake assessments and medication system set-up for new residents.
· Communicate and collaborate with families as needed.
· Ascertain necessity and oversee arrangements for medical care of residents and clients.
· Provide nursing assessments regarding resident and client physical fitness to participate in the Work Program.
· Maintain close communication with a resident’s treatment team regarding resident medical status.
Med Room Management
· Review and update Med Room Policies and Procedures document.
· Supervision of Dietician and Med Assistant.
· Create and maintain a professional med room environment where staff know that safety, service, compassion, competence, cleanliness and order, and other high nursing values are manifest ongoing.
· Oversee and organize the med room for efficient use by trained non-medical staff to administer medications.
· Provide nursing education on resident care and med room practices toward excellent safety and treatment for residents and confidence for staff.
General Nursing Services
· Provide and coordinate routine and emergent medical care.
· Oversee SLR communication with outside providers including lab, UA company, and others as needed.
· Assess and analyze lab values.
· Provide periodic wellness seminars for residents.
· Make health/wellness related announcements to residents and staff.
· Conduct trainings and drills per CARF requirements.
· Attend trainings and other professional development opportunities as appropriate.
· Provide “on-call” for nursing services.
COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Attends weekly staff meetings and staff development opportunities, meeting the licensing training requirements for position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Licensed as an RN by the State of Vermont.
· Psychiatric nursing experience is strongly preferred.
