Radiology Director directs and coordinates activities of a radiology or diagnostic imaging department in a hospital or other medical facility. Reviews work schedules and assigns duties to workers to maintain patient flow and achieve production goals. Being a Radiology Director oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment, such as x-ray machine, fluoroscope, CT scanner, or MRI equipment. Evaluates accuracy and quality of images and provides technical assistance to staff. Additionally, Radiology Director demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff. Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develops and implements plans, policies, and procedures regarding operations and staffing and, the purchasing of radiology supplies. May require an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Radiology Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Radiology Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     OVERVIEW:

    Directs, manages, and coordinates all aspects of the radiology department including budget management, ensuring radiation safety measurements, staff scheduling, and overseeing the operation and maintenance of radiologic equipment. Develop and implement policies and procedures in relation to the radiology department to ensure a high level of quality care and service to patients as requested by a healthcare provider.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

    • Oversees day-to-day operations, which includes problem solving issues and ensuring effective processing.
    • Develops and documents department procedures to ensure consistent and accurate processing.
    • Works with other departments in providing services and resources.
    • Monitors workflow and departmental processes.
    • Develops and maintains department policies.
    • Sets and achieves department goals and objectives.
    • Directs and coordinates the services of radiology and imaging procedures; overseeing staff in operation of imaging equipment, such, as x-ray machines and computerized tomography (CT) scanners.
    • Meets operational standards by implementing production, productivity, quality, and patient-service standards, resolving problems, and identifying system improvements.
    • Evaluates accuracy and quality of images.
    • Provides technical assistance and implements new techniques, equipment and procedures.
    • Supports patient care by resolving radiology issues with physicians, radiologists, radiology technologists, and ancillary staff.
    • Maintains, develops, monitors and reports budgets, expenses, variances and strategic planning for each department.
    • Maintains timekeeping records and updates appropriately and accurately for each departments staff.
    • Works with vendors and management, as appropriate, to negotiate best value purchases.
    • Guides and participates in annual budgeting planning process for areas of responsibility.
    • Maintains financial standards by providing annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; and implementing corrective actions.

    Requirements

    RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
    • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
    • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, healthcare administration, or related field.
    • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
    • CT Certification with State of North Carolina or ARRT
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Previous experience as a Radiology Technologist preferred
    • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications as well as medical office software.
    • Proven experience in healthcare billing.
    • Sound knowledge of health insurance providers.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
