Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II administers radiation therapy by exposing specific areas of the patient's body to prescribed doses of radiation. Maintains patient charts, noting such information as the area treated, the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date. Being a Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II consults with radiation oncologists and other clinical staff as needed. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II typically requires graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program, certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a physician or manager. The Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Summary :

    The Radiation Therapist Assistant will be responsible for scheduling daily radiation therapy treatments, Special Procedures, and New Start appointments given at time of simulation. The RT Assistant will help maintain efficient treatment schedules, making sure all patients have adequate treatment durations. If openings occur on the machines, the RT Assistant will call patients to come in earlier. Assist the Radiation Therapists with patient communication if a treatment machine is unavailable.

    Will make any patient-requested scheduling changes as appropriate and if machine is availability. Will place SIM reminder calls to patient’s pre-sim to emphasize special instructions dictated by the Radiation Oncologist. Will help arrange transport for all inpatients acting as the liaison between the Radiation Nurses, the Radiation Therapists, and Medcom transport. The RT Assistant will ensure all treatment and sim rooms are fully stocked with supplies and linen, and empty linen carts as needed. This employee will help with the cleaning and tidying of treatment waiting rooms. They will assist patients filling out their Oral Contrast assessment sheets. Reconciles billing charges and notifies Radiation Therapist if a discrepancy is noted. Actively participates in other duties as assigned by the Radiation Oncology Manager.
