Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II administers radiation therapy by exposing specific areas of the patient's body to prescribed doses of radiation. Maintains patient charts, noting such information as the area treated, the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date. Being a Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II consults with radiation oncologists and other clinical staff as needed. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II typically requires graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program, certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and a state license to practice. Typically reports to a physician or manager. The Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT) II work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Responsible for performing all types of CT scans and related activities in the Heart Center CT Dept.
Education: Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program required.
Experience: Two (2) years in a CT Department which routinely performs cardiac and vascular imaging preferred.
License, Certification and/or Registration: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration required. Current AHA BLS certification. Advanced CT certification with ARRT preferred.
Additional Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of x-ray procedures and protocols. Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in writing and maintaining records and reports. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, physicians and staff. Ability to communicate clearly. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions in order to maintain a safe working environment. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Knowledge of organization’s policies and procedures. Upholds effective work habits including, but not limited to, regular attendance, teamwork, initiative, dependability, and promptness.
