Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. The Dosimetrist is professionally engaged at the interfaces between:
The clinical requirements of patient treatment prescribed by the radiation oncologist; The physical requirements specified by the radiation oncology physicist for design and execution of the physician’s prescription for each assigned patient, per department policies and procedures; and the simulation and treatment delivery procedures implemented by the radiation therapists. In addition to designing treatment plans that comply with the aforementioned factors, this position has major responsibility for the accurate documentation and communication of all phases of this process for the entire radiation oncology team and the patient.
