Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist jobs in Texas

Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Computes standard dose calculations and determines computerized generation of isodose curves for external beam hyperthermia and brachytherapy radiation treatment programs. Being a Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist calculates treatment machine settings, documents calculations, and records treatment data in therapy chart. Interprets physician prescriptions to develop a therapeutic treatment plan. Additionally, Radiation Therapy Dosimetrist typically requires completion of a training program in medical dosimetry and ARRT registration in radiation therapy. Requires a bachelor's degree of physical or biological sciences. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.     Performs external beam treatment planning and dose calculations for radiation therapy patients' care as well as quality assurance activities and plan/chart reviews.

    JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

    Clinical Competencies Competently performs external beam treatment planning and

    dose calculations for safe effective radiation treatment delivery. Demonstrates accurate

    and timely patient e-chart processing, calculations, chart checks and supporting quality

    assurance activities. Maintains & demonstrates knowledge on all the latest guidelines,

    policies and procedures specific to medical dosimetry including but not limited to, basic

    competencies, skill specific competencies, and institutional and departmental policies.

    conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information

    Education
    Required
    : Graduate of hospital or college affiliated medical dosimetry school with clinical and classroom curriculum for duration of one year. May substitute for required education with three years of current medical dosimetry experience.

    Certification/Licensure
    Required: Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) within four years of job entry.
