Radiation Physicist ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation-producing sources and imaging equipment and the protection of patients and staff from radiation. Calibrates all radiation therapy equipment, conducts X-ray machine performance surveys, and implements procedures to ensure quality control for electronic imaging devices. Being a Radiation Physicist recommends radiation safety procedures. Informs staff in radiation safety practices. Additionally, Radiation Physicist may require an advanced degree of radiation physics. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Radiation Physicist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The Imaging Physicist provides clinical medical physics support to the University of Vermont Medical Center and its partners in the University of Vermont Health Network. This support consists of providing technical expertise in the science of medical imaging and the safe and efficacious use of ionizing radiation, ultrasound, and electromagnetic fields for patient diagnosis. This includes the procurement planning with leadership, evaluation and implementation of new imaging equipment and technologies, the establishment of quality assurance programs, and ensuring compliance of the institution's imaging programs with state and federal accreditation and regulatory agencies. The Imaging Physicist supports the clinical, teaching and research missions of The University of Vermont Medical Center through education of medical residents and other trainees and clinical research activities within the organization.

    EDUCATION:

    Requires an MS, DMP, or PhD in medical physics.

    EXPERIENCE:

    A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in medical imaging physics and board certification in Diagnostic Imaging Physics by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent required.

    HOURS:

    Weekdays 8AM-5PM with some weekends and flexibility around clinical schedules.
