Position Overview
KU School of Business is seeking a Budget Analyst to join its growing and expanding team. This position requires a dynamic person - who can adapt and grow while (1) overseeing the School's internal budgets, (2) initiating and monitoring transactions, and (3) reporting on all the School's funds. This position reports to and works closely with the Principal Analyst preparing financial analyses, cash management, forecasting, risk management, and developing strategic financial plans. The Budget Analyst also works in close coordination with the School's human resources team.
This position is designated as primarily on-campus during the academic year but has flexibility to work virtually or hybrid over breaks and summer, as approved. The Budget Analyst's office will be located in Capitol Federal Hall, a 166,500 square foot modern facility that the School of Business has called home since 2016. Other flexible work schedules will be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines.

Job Description
50% Financial Management and Reporting-
Works with the principal analyst to develop and implement plans for comprehensive financial reporting

Manages the School’s allocated, earned, and endowment funds in accordance with School priorities and applicable Federal, State and University guidelines

Provides financial analysis, timely and accurate financial reports, operational insights, and strategy recommendations to support the principal analyst, dean, area directors, and programs

Works with the principal analyst to develop and implement plans for cash management, forecasting, and risk management

Provides financial analysis, advice, and assistance on special projects
-
Coordinates with the School’s human resources team to arrange funding for all appointments in the School including faculty, students, and staff
40% Budget and Administration-
Coordinates development of the operating budget, analysis of carry forward balances, and an all-funds School budget

Monitors and adjusts fund balances as necessary

Coordinates accounting and reporting workflow with the SSC, area administrators, area directors, and human resources

Ensures the accuracy of transaction accounting and area reporting for the School, identifies and corrects errors

Establishes and maintains financial internal control systems and serves as the lead for any internal audit procedures

Works with the principal analyst to develop, document, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures

Serves as an expert adviser to the principal analyst and the dean on budget matters

Represents the School at budget and finance-related meetings when needed

Tracks endowment accounts to ensure they are spent properly
10% Service and Other Related Duties-
Develops and provides appropriate training plans for staff in areas and ensure problem resolutions are handled promptly and within established guidelines

Represents the principal analyst and the School of Business on issues related to the improvement of processes, procedures, and automated systems used in the financial reporting and budgeting processes

As an member of the Data Team for the KU School of Business, will actively participate in achieving team goals and positive outcomes

Participates as an active team member of the School staff including attending staff meetings and serving on School or University committees, as directed.

Completes other duties as assigned related to the position and strategic needs of the School
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and three years of related experience or High School diploma and five years of related experience

Experience in developing and administering budgets as demonstrated by work history
-
Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills, as demonstrated by work history
-
Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials, as well as excellent oral communication skills (to be confirmed by interview and references)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field

A minimum of five years of experience in an accounting or financial management role

Certified Public or Chartered Financial Analyst

Experience in developing and using financial models, forecasting tools, and predictive analytics
-
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, administrators and other members of a post-secondary educational institution

Experience in higher education
-
Experience with KU budget and reporting systems and a understanding of KU business, operations, policies, procedures, and fiscal processes
