General purpose of the job

The Quarry Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to lead all aspects of the quarry operation, including safe, efficient operation of all quarry fixed and mobile equipment; implementation of the mine plan; effective coordination with other plant departments and supervision of quarry employees.

Nature and Scope

• Responsible for the day-to-day operation and performance of quarry operations.
• Provide safety leadership for the quarry - Actively participate in the Argos plant safety observation program.
• Ensure that employees and subcontractors understand, implement, update, and consistently follow safe work rules and practices.
• Manage and supervise quarry employees.
• Review quarry operating performances to ensure adherence to approved production schedules, quality standards, cost standards, and inventory levels.
• Develop and implement plans to deal with non-conformance to standards and commitments.
• Review operations performance and actions with the Quarry Manager on a timely, frequent basis.
• Working with the Quarry Manager, assisting in developing the quarry operating budget. Responsible on a monthly and yearly basis for Quarry and mobile equipment performance against the approved operating budgets and forecasts
• Spend at least 25 % of time in the field monitoring the operation and coaching direct reports.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for quarry mining and reclamation.
• Participate in the development of the strategic plans for the quarry.
• Ensure execution of short-term and daily Quarry plans.
• Track and utilize quarry-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive performance.
• Communicate any safety, environmental, or operational concerns to management.
• Facilitate the training and development of quarry personnel.
• Manage the performance of employees through feedback, coaching, and formal and informal performance reviews.
• Schedule and manage any contractors as required.
• Validate, implement and manage SOP’s for the quarry operation.
• Effectively communicate operational expectations to quarry personnel.
• Troubleshoot operational problems and propose solutions.
• Maintain accurate records of quarry equipment downtime.
• Maintain open communication with other plant coordinators.
• Covers Quarry Manager roles and responsibilities when the Quarry Manager is out of the office.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Achievement of production and customer commitments.
• Achievement of product quality commitments (MQOs).
• Achievement of cost commitments (budget and forecasts).
• Operating within operating permits (air, water, etc.)
• Achievement of outstanding safety performance, measured by MSHA incidence rate, MSHA S&S citations, and Plant Safety Index.
• Achievement of the annual training and development plan goals for his area of responsibility.

Education

Engineering Degree (Mining Preferred) or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

Experience/Skills Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of quarry operations/engineering experience
• Minimum 5 years of Supervision or Management experience
• Supervision or Management experience in a union environment preferred.
• Strong commitment to safety

• Ability to achieve success by managing multiple tasks and objectives.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to be successful working with limited direct supervision.
• Excellent planning skills
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

• Flexible team player able to deal with adverse human and technical situations.
• Cement experience preferred.
