Quality Generalist Manager develops and administers policies and procedures for evaluating and improving the quality of products, materials, components and/or manufacturing processes. Makes recommendations to ensure production runs meet established quality standards and predicted yields. Being a Quality Generalist Manager ensures employees follow established procedures and complete quality assurance work within time and budgetary constraints. May be responsible for ensuring products meet international quality standards such as ISO 9001. Additionally, Quality Generalist Manager works across a variety of quality assurance disciplines. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Quality Generalist Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Substantial knowledge of the AS9100 quality management system and formal problem solving tools such as 8D and Ishikawa is required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage the Quality Department, including: hiring, termination, reprimands or other disciplinary actions, policy enforcement, support, guidance and leadership
    • Encourage process and manufacturing improvements when and if insufficiencies exist on Opportunity For Improvements (OFI) &/or Corrective Actions.
    • Enforce good housekeeping and safety.
    • Works closely with the Production Staff to develop and implement quality programs to support production and quality goals.
    • Work closely with Inside Sales/Customer Service to validate requests from the customer to return suspect product. If return is authorized, work with manufacturing and engineering to coordinate evaluation of suspect material and determines root cause and corrective action when required.
    • Accurately respond to all customer root cause and corrective action requests within in a timely manner after review of defective product, and purges all WIP or finished goods inventory for evaluation of defined defect when required.
    • Contributes as a member of the AQP (Advanced Quality Planning) team personally responsible for reviewing dimensional capabilities on drawings, determines needs for inspection fixtures or gages.
    • Implement and maintain Cost of Quality system.
    • Working closely with Engineering to ensure that designs can be manufactured with repeatable Quality.
    • Lead quality initiatives, develop and facilitate quality teams.
    • Independently drive and direct actions with departmental groups to maintain MRB and RMA issues.
    • Drive key quality performance metrics: DPPM, OTD, Cost of Quality, Customer Scorecards, Internal Audit Risk and Effectiveness, Supplier Performance, Contract Review.
    • Source Management.
    • Support PMA Requirements of the Site as needed.
    • Lead for Contract Review Process.
    • Travel to customer locations as required.
    • Manage the company’s inspection & calibration activities needed for product inspection and testing. Insure that internal testing standards, procedures, and equipment provides reliable results and prevent shipment of non-conforming products.
    • Responsible for providing leadership and day-to-day technical direction and support in executing product quality processes and other related quality management system activities.
    • Manage receiving inspection requirements as needed.
    • Support operations and management review through monitoring of process performance and audit results, assign personnel to support product manufacturing and test requirements, participate in failure review resolution to determine Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA), provide technical support for all programs and product lines, interface with Proposal and Program.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to negotiate and set priorities required.
    • Possesses high degree of personal accountability.
    • Ability to travel as needed.
    • Possess superior organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Other duties as required.

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Detailed knowledge of aerospace requirements and specifications.
    • Proven track record of partnering with manufacturing via applying Engineering and Quality expertise to improve quality, reduce cost, improve lead-time and drive efficiencies.
    • Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate clearly on technical topics.
    • Proven ability to lead direct reports.
    • Skilled at problem solving through root-cause/corrective action.
    • Skilled at maintaining and auditing AS9100 / ISO 9001:2008 Quality standards.
    • Experience with formal quality and operations systems.
    • Skilled with Kaizen, 6S, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement and Lean Production.
    • Skilled at reviewing and interpreting drawings, contracts / PO’s, and applicable processing standards.
    • Skilled at use of digital/analog measuring instruments, e.g., micrometers, calipers, linear and dial gauges, height gauges, and a visual comparator.
    • Able to Manage First Article inspections and process along with timing.
    • Proficiency with MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • An understanding of use and application of SPC.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or combination of Education and Work Experience
    • Five plus years working as a Quality Manager or Supervisor in the aerospace industry.
    • Working Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 & AS9100 quality management system processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage others in a professional and production environment.
