Job Description:
Ready Mixed Concrete Quality Control Technician
Pay: $20-$30 Per Hour / Based on Experience and Qualifications
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the quality of ready mixed concrete produced at the Nucor Apple Grove WV site. Individual will perform tests and inspection of ready mixed concrete and ready mixed concrete raw materials to confirm conformance with customer and/or project specifications. Individual will take corrective action to address identified items that impact the established material targets for the production and delivery of ready mixed concrete. Individual will report to the Director of Technical Services.

• Sampling and testing of input raw materials including but not limited coarse and fine aggregate gradations and associated aggregate tests.
• Inspect concrete prior to delivery for product conformance.
• Sample and test plastic ready mixed concrete. Tests include but are not limited to slump, unit weight, air content and temperature.
• Cast, cure, transport and test concrete specimens.
• Conduct on-site visual inspections of concrete being delivered either by direct observation methods of chute delivery and/or climbing the truck for visual inspection in the drum.
• Assist delivery drivers at the plant and onsite.
• Assist production personnel at plant.
• Provide customer support onsite during the concrete placement.
• Conduct product investigations as needed.
• Prepare weekly strength and gradation reports.
• Conduct trial batches of new mix designs and assist in mixture proportioning of new mixes as needed onsite.
• Maintain the onsite lab and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
JOB ACTIVITIES:
Working hours: Weekly: 40 hrs. plus overtime. No standard shifts of duty (day and night work).
Working Environment: Outside in weather, uneven ground, traffic, in the truck, around heavy equipment, and construction sites.
Technical skills: Proficient in basic computer applications (Word, Excel & Outlook). Operate the technical aspects of a pickup truck & communication equipment.
Manual Processes: Lifting body weight (entering and exiting truck), climbing ladders, operate machinery, lift & secure up to 40 lb. (frequently, waist-high and infrequently, overhead), up to 80 lb. (infrequently, waist-high) in the operation of a wheel-barrel.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Licenses: Valid state class “C” driver’s license
Certifications: ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1 – Required
Preferred ACI Concrete Strength and Laboratory Testing / DOT / NRMCA Level II or III
Experience: Previous concrete construction and/or concrete inspection experience required.
Abilities: Demonstrated strong communication & customer/quality-oriented decision making skills.
Physical: Able to lift 80 lbs. Waist-high / 40 lbs. overhead, climb ladders, work outside,
Must wear appropriate safety attire at all times (steel toed safety boots, hardhat, safety glasses, etc.)
