Lead Quality Assurance Specialist

  • The Lead Quality Assurance Specialist for Food Safety is responsible for: maintaining required Certification as SQF Practitioner and FSVP PCQI to build and manage a robust Food Safety Verification Program (FSVP), Food Security/Food Defense and Food Fraud ISO 9001:2000 management systems and HACCP/HARPC plan. Assist in coordinating Quality Assurance and related programs to ensure Product Quality and Safety in Utah facilities and provide remote support for the Green Pond facility. Monitor compliance with cGMP and Food safety programs by ensuring that the processes, systems and procedures are in place.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Compliance: Assure that manufacturing locations comply with Innophos approved QA & Regulatory Standards
      • Ensure compliance to the applicable Quality standard, Safety Dietary Supplement standard NSF 173 and Regulatory cGMP Dietary standard FDA CFR 111 and Food standard FDA CFR 117 through Quality System reviews
      • Performs and or coordinates internal audits to ensure that Quality & Regulatory standards are being adhered to
      • Collaborate with Manufacturing/Quality Control to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and safety standards (FDA, etc.)
      • Keeps the system current with all related quality legislation and compliance issues
      • Develop validation protocols and validate processes for improved quality and OOS reduction
      • Develop and maintain the shelf-life stability program
      • Manage customer complaint investigations
      • Root cause investigations, CAPA
      • Manage outside contractors for pest control and smock laundering
      • Act as a back-up for Plant QA on weekends to:
        • Conduct BK and OK Batch record reviews and raw material and product releases
        • Inspect and release material and equipment before packaging
        • Conduct room clearance inspections
        • Internal plant food safety audits
      • Actively participate in safety initiatives, including but not limited to emergency response plan
      • Proactively mitigate accidents and eliminate unsafe conditions and report near-miss incidents
      • Maintain office area in acceptable and safe condition
    • External audits: Assure the success of Customer’s and Third-party audits

      • Ensure that specific requirements agreed to in Customer’s agreements are known, implemented, monitored and compliant
      • Lead and support internal and external audits/inspections/customer visits
      • Manage CAPA and implementation following audits
    • Performance: Lead QA Continuous improvement
      • Track key quality metrics such as product quality, customer complaints, non-conforming product, etc., through a structured approach
      • Develop an appropriate dashboard to report performance vs. metrics, communicate areas of concern and develop/communicate/drive plans to improve
      • Interface with vendors on quality-related issues as needed, in collaboration with the Associate Director QA located in Cranbury, NJ, in charge of Material/Suppliers program
      • Operate within quality standards and specifications
      • Monitor and develop Quality Systems that continue to meet emerging industry trends
      • Create processes to expedite our response times to customers with quality issues
    • Sanitation: Lead sanitation efforts to ensure cGMP standards are met or exceeded
      • Author, manage, and audit the facility Master Sanitation Schedule
      • Ensure accountability for Sanitation initiatives and regulatory compliance
      • Author, manage, audit the Environmental Monitoring Program
      • Conduct and publish results of cleaning validations as needed
      • Ensure compliance with HACCP program

    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Food or Life science; advanced degree preferred
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Quality Management or Continuous Improvement disciplines within manufacturing

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Experience in the Food, Dietary Supplement, or Pharmaceutical industries with advanced quality systems
    • Strong influence and partnership skills
    • FSMA/ PCQI a plus
    • Root cause analysis
    • CGMP
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Expertise in Risk Management and Project Management
    • GMP, GLP, HACCP, HARPC (PCQI Individual), 21 CFR 11, 110, 111, 117, NSF 173 and 306

    Environmental and/or Physical Requirements

    • This job requires both in-plant work and office work
    • Plant conditions include high and low temperatures; areas where respirators or dust masks are required, noisy conditions
    • Ability to work on feet, cherry picker/boom lifts
    • Walk, sit, stand, squat, reach, lift up to 50 lbs
    • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available
