Leads the plant in managing food quality and safety programs and other initiatives to improve products, processes, and food safety culture. As a key member of the plant management team, assists the plant manager in providing quality and food safety leadership to employees. Participates in/leads projects with Corporate cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
· Hires, trains, and professionally develops QA team members.
· Advises plant on quality and food safety implications of changes in product, processing, or facility design.
· Prepares monthly summary reports of key food safety and quality benchmarks including issues and corrective actions.
· Makes recommendations and decisions involving food safety and/or quality issues with significant potential business impact.
· Develops and establishes programs, policies, procedures and work instructions for quality and food safety, and verifies implementation.
· Serves as a key technical resource in the plant and as a liaison between Corporate R&D, the Food Safety Quality Regulatory team, and plant operations.
· Coordinates plant quality and food safety audits (internal and third party). Works with plant manager to assign audit responsibilities to various members of the plant team.
· Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA and Food Safety Plan/HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards.
· Evaluates, investigates, and resolves non-conformance issues/quality problems at plant facilities, warehouses, and in the market. Works with plant management team to develop corrective and preventive action plans and communicates plans to QA management, sales, marketing, and the customer as appropriate.
· Recommends and/or develops orientation and training programs for quality, food safety, and GMP requirements. Assists members of the plant team in training as appropriate. Trains and instructs plant employees on required quality related tasks, facility housekeeping practices, and advises the plant sanitation team; confirms these procedures are being maintained.
Qualifications:
· BS or BA degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, or related degree.
· Five plus years of experience as a quality assurance supervisor/manager in a food related industry, bakery preferred.
· Preferred experience managing USDA production and regulatory program requirements.
· Must be able to lead projects/people, motivate associates and proactively anticipate and address issues.
· Directly manages plant QA department. Manager responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating employees; planning, assigning and directing work; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing and resolving challenges and problems.
