Who is MCS? Mid-America Conversion Services (MCS) is cleaning up the environment! We manage the Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion Facilities at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sites near Paducah, Kentucky and Portsmouth, Ohio. The conversion facilities were designed and constructed to convert DOE’s inventory of DUF6 produced by the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion and the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plants to a more stable uranium oxide form for reuse, storage, and/or transportation and disposition.
Position Overview
- Under limited supervision responsible for performing Quality Assurance (QA) oversight of the DUF6 conversion project to ensure organizational requirements are being implemented pursuant to the DUF6 Project Quality Assurance Plan (PQAP). The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Functional:
- Develops QA procedures and related documents to ensure PQAP requirements are implemented
- Verifies compliance of all operations with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, federal regulations, and the organizational PQAP
- Reviews and reports on new/revised regulatory requirements and impact on established PQAP
- Develops the review of scope and selected project documents from a quality perspective to confirm conformance with the PQAP
- Performs supplier evaluations/assessments
- Reviews and approves work packages, purchase requisitions, and procedures
- Advances in project-wide system QA audits and surveillance of departments, suppliers and subcontracts for compliance with the PQAP
- Monitors indicators from all reporting systems from a quality perspective
- Cultivates the initiation of condition reports (CRs) and non-conformance reports as required
- Documents and reports any adverse trends, and identifies corrective actions
- Tracks effectiveness of corrective actions implemented
- Improves oversight on received items for defects and compliance with specifications/requirements
- Improves oversight on selected outgoing waste shipments for compliance with the PQAP
- Provides technical guidance to lower-level engineers, technicians, and inspectors
- Interfaces with other project departments to ensure quality objectives are met
