Majestic Steel is thrilled to welcome a new Director of Quality Assurance to our team! This pivotal role is integral to our Quality Assurance operations, tasked with overseeing the development and maintenance of our corporate Quality Assurance system. The Director of Quality Assurance will lead a team dedicated to enhancing customer satisfaction, ensuring supplier accountability, and positively impacting our company's financial performance. They will drive continuous improvement initiatives, conduct root cause analysis, and spearhead defect reduction efforts to optimize our Quality Management System (QMS). This is hybrid role, and will consider candidates near our Ohio, California, and Arkansas facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, manages and integrates a QMS for processing and service centers
- Serves as the primary quality resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement
- Designs, implements and documents procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection
- Establishes and implements metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring system effectiveness and to enable managers to make sound product quality decisions
- Educates and trains associates as to their impact in the quality management system
- Interfaces with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality and assures that effective corrective action is implemented
- Manages all Quality Assurance personnel on a day-to-day basis, including Regional/Plant QA resources, Corporate QA resources, and Customer-facing QA resources
- Initiates and implements quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company’s product lines
- Provides strategic leadership and coaching through a shared operational excellence strategy
- Performs root-cause analysis and other problem solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements
- Establishes collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality
- Analyzes customers’ product specifications to establish efficient, cost-effective requirements for ease of processing and reproducibility
- Supports concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer
- Develops quality planning methods for all product lines
- Develops process certification standards and assists in process certification
- Monitors vendor performance and establishes criteria and rating system for critical vendors
- Reviews customer purchase orders, contracts and change requests and ensures that the necessary criteria and provisions are included in quality and process plans
- Interacts with customers to identify opportunities to improve quality and establishes feedback with processing and development personnel
- Reports to senior management on quality issues, trends and losses
- Reviews suppliers purchase orders and establish supplier quality requirements
- Participates in internal and external quality audits
- Supports the development of systems and measurements that help the business make profitable decisions
- Other job related duties and special projects as assigned
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, business administration or related field or equivalent work experience
- 10 years of experience in quality assurance systems implementation and management
- 5 years of management experience
- Steel industry experience
- Technologically savvy and experience working with Microsoft Office products and Windows-based applications

- Business management and leadership skills with proven ability to lead and develop a team
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience as a CQE/CQM in a steel warehousing and processing environment
- Six Sigma black-belt certification, with a proven track record of business performance improvement
Supervisory Responsibility
- Oversees all associates assigned to the area. Responsible for hiring, retention, development and performance management for the area
Additional
- Must be able to work outside normal business hours/days as needed
- Must be able to travel occasionally and work at an outside location
Base Salary Range $140,000 - $215,000 (DOE)
