Purchasing Supervisor

This role provides first level operating entity sourcing oversight, including quoting to order placement and vendor management. With prescribed authority limits, the individual participates in cost savings opportunities, competitive purchasing environment creation, pricing negotiation, initial contract review for presentation, and goods management delivery.

Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities.

• Departmental staff recruiting, development, training and supervision.
• Coordinates the work of and activities of the department and others getting members of a group to work together as a team to accomplish tasks.
• Identifies means to reduce costs and apply actions that are focused on creating greater efficiencies, economies of sale or better-quality resources for the purchasing department.
• Creates and manages inventory levels and lead times, with a goal to reduce inventory and warehousing costs by bringing in materials just in time.
• Develops supplier qualification process to efficiently and effectively onboard new suppliers and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers.
• Builds strong relationships with internal and external customers/suppliers.
• Monitors and improves supplier performance for delivery, price and quality by implementing vendor score carding.
• Working with Quality and Planning, coordinates timely disposition and corrective actions for non-conforming purchased materials.
• Collects market and pricing information and prepares market analysis reports for major commodities; provide up-to-date information on suppliers, costs, quality, and the like that potentially could impact operations or profitability work closely with operations and cost estimators.
• Drives cost savings initiatives for assigned categories; establish and meet cost reduction and performance goals.
• Assists in implementation of MRP module.

• Achieves assigned goal for Cost Savings Initiatives
• Retains a qualified team of purchasing professionals to meet department metrics.

Qualifications

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities

Education:

• Bachelors Degree with emphasis on business, supply chain, or related field.
• Or equivalent topic specific work experience.

Experience:

• Progressive 3 years of experience in various purchasing and/or buying functions.
• Solid understanding of purchasing principles and practices.
• Proven negotiation and conflict resolution.
• Learning knowledge of business and management principles, with developing aptitude for strategic planning.
• Practiced know-how applying resource allocation through communication, analysis, and stakeholder collaboration.
• Emerging leadership technique regarding people skills.
• Demonstrated success managing supplier relationships, vendor inventory management, JIT, Lean manufacturing and supply chain processes.
• Reliable ability to organize multiple and changing priorities simultaneouslyaccuracy under pressure is an absolute.
• Sound judgement using all available information and resources and applying smart business rationale.

Communication:

The ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal is essential.

• Active listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Physical Capabilities

Strength (lifting, dexterity, repetitive motion): comfortable for extend time using stationary workspace including computer and phone.

Movement (standing, stopping, sitting, crouching, crawling): Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Hearing (loud noise tolerance, quiet work area, public speaking, receive work direction): normal office noise level.

Vision (judge distance, read signs, extended computer work, identify details): able to see written information including computer generated or by hand.
