Inputs transactions and administers a purchasing and contracts system or database. Being a Purchasing Clerk interacts with suppliers to obtain favorable pricing terms, product specifications, monitor availability, and optimize savings. Expedites delayed orders and resolves issues with changes, returns, replacements, and credit arrangements. Additionally, Purchasing Clerk coordinates with internal teams to ensure that procurement needs are met promptly and efficiently. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or team leader. The Purchasing Clerk works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. JOB SUMMARY: Employee is responsible for purchasing duties and buying oversite at the County Road Department. Duties include obtaining pricing and estimates, preparation and approval of purchases, payments, receivables and reconciliations. Position is responsible for stock inventory and control and warehouse operations. Position exercises independent judgement in the administration of all procurement-related projects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience Substitution: Three and one half years’ experience, up to two years college/48 hours of course work can be substituted for two years’ experience.
CERTIFICATION/TRAINING: Valid N.M. driver’s license with a good driving record. New Mexico Chief Procurement Officer Certification (NMCPO) Obtained within six (6) months of date of hire.
ABILITIES/SKILLS: Tasks include but are not limited to: Approval and preparation of purchase orders as well as procuring all parts, materials and tools at best possible cost. Duties include preparing through and accurate cost statements and estimates. Approving and reconciling Purchasing Cards. Employee obtains and evaluates quotes for best price and compares the attributes of available products to determine the best items to purchase. Employee manages the supply room and insures the proper level of inventory is maintained to meet department needs. Employee must interact with the public, officials and employees in a pleasant and helpful manner. Employee must perform all related work as required and other duties as assigned.
