Punch Press Operator configures and operates electrically powered presses to cut, shape, and form metal, plastic, or other materials used in manufacturing operations. Performs operations such as blanking, bending, punching, and forming based on blueprints and other instructions. Being a Punch Press Operator responsibilities include configuring equipment and calibrating gauge settings, recognizing condition of dies, loading materials onto the equipment, feeding material through die, and positioning and removing parts from the die. Keeps a record of operational data and performs routine equipment maintenance. Additionally, Punch Press Operator monitors work schedule to ascertain production information, such as size, type, and quantity to be processed. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Punch Press Operator works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Function:

    Sets-up, adjusts, and safely operates manual sheet metal fabricating equipment such as: CNC press brakes, shears, fiber optic laser, and notches. Applicants must understand punch beds and tool sets. Be able to safely use all hand tools required. Must have a knowledge of the hand layout process to produce parts. Reads and interprets blueprints to determine the safest and most efficient way for the operator to perform the job and sets up the machinery to produce quality parts. Makes all necessary machine adjustments required to guarantee the parts are dimensional within tolerance.

    Responsibilities:

    • Reference work instructions and reviews print specifications to determine proper materials and machine set-up and/or adjustment to accomplish production requirements.
    • Determine the necessary punches, dies, or process for each production order while maximizing common set-ups. Sets tonnage, stroke height, depth, and develops a bending/shearing/punching sequence while creating individual part programs using various types of CNC & manual controllers.
    • Inspect and confirm accuracy of first production piece and at subsequent intervals using a variety of measuring instruments, digital, dial, radius, and fixtures.
    • Follow instruction from Team Lead to ensure priorities are aligned with the production plans.
    • Communicate with Value Stream Manager to provide feedback on fabrication results.
    • Observes machine to detect malfunctions. Works with production personnel, other operators, Supervisor and/or maintenance staff to troubleshoot problems.

    • Moves parts, components, finished goods or positions heavy dies manually or with work aids including hand jacks or forklift trucks.
    • Properly communicate with Inventory Control Specialist to ensure all scrap is accounted for.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Applicants will have to pass a basic math skills test in order to move into the interview process.

    • Proficient in math (fractions, measurement, angles, fractions to decimals, decimals to fraction)
    • Understand complex instructions on how schematics work and make sure items are designed correctly to build
    • Be able to determine why machines are not at peak performance, how to increase output and how to fix errors.
    • Must have strong attention to detail
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • Must understand verbal and written English

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Must be able to use PPE correctly at all times
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to use proper lifting techniques
    • Manufacturing experience a plus
    • Air tool/ pneumatic tool experience a plus
    • Must be able to climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time
    • Consistent and on time attendance
    • CNC experience-preferred
