  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Seven years experience in writing and production of publications which include professional experience in at least two of the following areas: writing and editing; design (typography, photography and illustration); and developing printed documents from concept to execution. One year of this experience must have included all of the following: supervision of subordinate professionals; preparation of budgets; and policy development and implementation. Examples of acceptable managerial experience include service as an art director, publications director, publications manager or chief editor.
    A bachelor's degree in graphic arts, english, journalism, biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, physics or environmental science, may be substituted for four years of the non-managerial experience; and an associates degree in these areas may be substituted for two years of the non-managerial experience.


    Duties Description
    This is a four-month temporary budgeted item. The incumbent of this position will shadow the current Publications Manager 3.

    Duties and Responsibilities of the Publications Manager 3 include:

    Manage the digital communications strategy for the agency in all digital areas
    • Coordinate transition to a new web content management system.
    • Establish metrics for social and digital media performance and coordinate efforts to increase public reach.
    • Evaluate emerging digital communication tools, such as new social media platforms, and make recommendations on using these tools as part of the agency’s
    digital footprint.
    • Establish agency-wide document and plain language standards for website use.
    • Oversee agency-wide digital communication platform trainings, including content management tools, document sharing tools, and digital newsletter content.
    • Establish social media and digital content strategy and policy.
    • Define specifications for all website content, including content and messaging, functionality information architecture, user experience, and style and branding
    compliance.
    • Liaison with agency executive staff for all digital communication needs, including facilitating new website and application projects.
    • Coordinate agency-wide digital programs.
    • Oversee digital marketing campaign efforts in promoting agency initiatives.

    Establish team dynamics and maintain a strong working rapport with agency executive staff, various ITS programs, including the State’s Digital Content team, Web NY, and agency-level web and applications teams.
    • Communicate complete information in a clear, concise, accurate manner without relying on technical language.
    • Coach staff on how to meet the needs for their audiences in their topic areas.
