Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     In the current school year, the KIPP Jacksonville region is comprised of four schools educating more than 2,700 students, kindergarten through eleventh grade in the North and West sides of Jacksonville, Florida.

    • KIPP Impact Academy: Kindergarten - 3rd grade, 6th - 8th grade

    • KIPP VOICE Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade

    • KIPP Bessie Coleman Academy: Kindergarten - 8th grade

    • KIPP Bold City High School: 9th - 11th grade

    For the current school year, teachers at KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools work the following hours Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Hours for teachers and students may vary slightly by school.

    • K-8 Staff: 7:30am - 4:30pm K-8 Students: 8:00am - 3:30pm, Wednesday K-8 dismissal is at 1:30pm

    • High School Staff: 6:45am - 3:45pm, High School Students: 7:15am - 2:30pm, Wednesday High School dismissal is at 12:30pm.

    Every Wednesday is a student early release day, which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development and content team meetings. *This doesn’t include Wellness Wednesdays when all staff leave at student dismissal.

    Job Description


    KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks a high school band teacher to join our school team as soon as possible. The band teacher would instruct students across grade levels and sections. Some continuing students from a KIPP middle school will have a foundation in band instruction while new students may not have been exposed to band instruction. The band teacher will coordinate and supervise performances. They will inventory instruments. As the school grows, the band/music team would ensure students are exposed to band instruction and allow every student to have access to an instrument. Long-term, the vision for the band is to include a marching band, a jazz ensemble, and a drumline.

    We are seeking a teacher who will be committed to providing quality music education that complements a rigorous academic program. The band teacher would have a vision for band performances that they plan and run smoothly. This position would work closely with the electives department. Teachers are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

    Please note the location of Bold City High School is the McDuff campus located at 1440 McDuff Avenue North.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree

    • Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification (Music K-12)

    • At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track record of high achievement in the classroom
