Public School Teacher jobs in Chesapeake, VA

Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. To be a Public School Teacher typically requires 2 -4 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    Hybrid In-Person - Asynchronous for Initial Credit Course

    June 27, 2022 – August 2, 2022

    Monday through Thursday

    7:15 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. 

     

    Current employees cannot receive pay for any summer school work, until after their contract for the 2020-2021 school year has concluded.  If they have any questions regarding the end date of their contract, they should contact their HR Generalist to confirm the end date of their contract.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must possess an active teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education in the area that you would like to teach.
    • Must provide a copy of the most recent teaching evaluation with proficient or above ratings.
    • Current administrator must complete the reference form (only).

    Nature of Position

     

    The 2021 High School Summer School Program is designed for students who need to recover credit for failed course(s) or want to take a course for initial credit.    

     

    GradPoint  

    Virtual courses for credit recovery and initial credit will be offered. Requests to enroll in Gradpoint for initial credit courses (Seniors only) must be approved by the executive director.  All GradPoint courses will be virtual. 

     

    Hybrid-In Person Course Revisits for Credit  

    All Course Revisits for Credit will be in-person on a hybrid model. School counselors must approve registration for these courses. Students must be present in the classroom and online with cameras on to be counted present. 

     

    Hybrid-In Person-Asynchronous Initial Credit Course  

    Initial credit courses will also be offered in-person on a hybrid model. Students must have prior approval from school counselors to enroll in initial credit courses. In-person attendance and synchronous attendance are required. Students must be present in the classroom and online with cameras on to be counted present. In-person, synchronous, and asynchronous assignments must be completed as part of the curriculum coursework.  

     

    Students with disabilities who participate in the high school summer program will receive inclusion support during their in-person instructional days with a focus on credit/graduation recovery.

     

    EXAMPES OF DUTIES

     

    The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

    • Develops lesson plans that include appropriate learning activities and instructional aids.
    • Demonstrates concepts and skills by use of models, chalkboard, overhead projector, other standard or teacher prepared instructional aids, and technology.
    • Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
    • Assesses each student’s progress and communicates with all stakeholders as appropriate
    • Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school
    • Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    • In-depth knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
    • Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community.
