Public School Teacher prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a K-12 classroom setting. Being a Public School Teacher evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Public School Teacher participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require specific state-level teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Public School Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Job Description
    • Grade(s): 5th - 8th

    Position Overview

    The Associate Teacher will receive close mentorship under a Lead Teacher, serve as a full staff member and thought partner in their respective school, and take on progressive teaching responsibilities over the academic year.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    Curriculum Development and Instruction

    • Supports Lead Teachers with tutoring, grading, and individual or small group student instruction.
    • Observe Lead Teachers improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
    • Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year.
    • In collaboration with the grade level team, plan and execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum that assesses students' progress.
    • Provide the Lead Teacher with support in instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.

    Commitment to School and Classroom Culture

    • Establish, cultivates, and maintains a collaborative relationship with the Lead Teacher
    • Help to co-lead advisory/homeroom in the morning and afternoon
    • Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch, and afterschool
    • Help develop school-wide culture that best fits the needs of our students, teachers and families
    • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and communicate openly with staff
    • Develop positive rapport with students
    • Create and foster a positive and calm learning environment
    • Enforce, uphold, and exhibit school's values, student management policies and culture

    Family Engagement

    • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents and share progress
    • Be available for open houses, parent teacher conferences and other events involving parents
    • Make him/herself available to students, parents and other staff members

    Growth Mindset

    • Pursue challenging professional goals each year
    • Willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
    • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year (held during school hours)
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University, required.
    • Valid NYS Teaching Licensure or willingness to pursue state certification, required.
    • Experience as a school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment.
    • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
    • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

    KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $51,800 - $59,228.

    Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
