Public Relations Manager develops and implements policies and procedures for the public relations department. Maintains favorable public image for employer or client by communicating programs, accomplishments, and/or points of view. Being a Public Relations Manager evaluates all forms of communications before release to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of message and authorizes release. Prepares and distributes news releases, fact sheets, scripts, etc. to media outlets. Additionally, Public Relations Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Public Relations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Serves as a TVA liaison with Valley-based Congressional staff and the legislative and executive branches of state and local governments. Advances TVA’s strategic objectives with congressional district staffs and state and local officials including Governors and state legislators. Helps develop corporate level policy for effective district, state and local government relations. Works with internal partners to collaborate and help build public support for TVA policies, programs, and initiatives.
Principal Accountabilities
Minimum Requirements:
Education — Bachelor’s degree in political science, business, communications, or related field of study, or equivalent education, training and experience.
Experience — At least five years professional experience in federal, state or local government relations and a strong background or education in state policies and programs. State legislative or executive branch experience is recommended.
Certification/License, etc — None
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Comprehensive knowledge of the legislative and executive branches of state government and the TVA programs and policies. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Strong background or education in state policies and programs. Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to build rapport, negotiate, and persuade. The ability to respond well under pressure and the ability to analyze and assimilate a great deal of information in a short time frame. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position/access requirements and essential job functions.
