Public Relations Manager develops and implements policies and procedures for the public relations department. Maintains favorable public image for employer or client by communicating programs, accomplishments, and/or points of view. Being a Public Relations Manager evaluates all forms of communications before release to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of message and authorizes release. Prepares and distributes news releases, fact sheets, scripts, etc. to media outlets. Additionally, Public Relations Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Public Relations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Public Relations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Transportation Department is now accepting statements of interest from staff for the following position. This position is only open to Transportation Department staff.

    Program Manager – Public Involvement and Government Relations

    Seeking a Program Manager to lead and guide public involvement and government relations initiatives on behalf of the Transportation Department. 

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

    • Overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of outreach and communication efforts related to transportation projects and programs
    • Overseeing the monitoring of transportation- and air quality-related legislation, including briefings to the Regional Transportation Council and drafting of Regional Transportation Council legislative policy positions
    • Overseeing participation in community outreach events and strategic purchasing of outreach items
    • Developing budgets and monitoring expenditures
    • Preparing and delivering oral presentations
    • Preparing and reviewing correspondence, documentation, reports, articles, and executive summaries
    • Planning and attending meetings and events
    • Supervising staff

    This position requires at least five years of work-related experience, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods. The individual in this position should also possess excellent written and oral communication skills, strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and effective managerial and supervisory skills.
