Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.       PRIMARY FUNCTION:
      The role involves establishing, managing, and implementing effective communication and public involvement strategies throughout New Fairfield to deliver timely, accurate, and understandable information to residents and others. The Director of Public Relations and Outreach collaborates with the First Selectman, the Board of Selectmen, department directors, their teams, and other governmental officials, boards, commissions, and community members.

      GENERAL DUTIES:
      Responsibilities include developing and overseeing communication policies and procedures townwide, public information and outreach, public involvement, public opinion research, and media relations. Additionally, it serves as an internal consultant, providing communication strategy advice to the First Selectman, Board of Selectmen, department directors, and staff based on internal and external communication policies, needs, and best practices, requiring a high level of discretion and sensitivity.

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      Knowledge of the full range of current communication, media relations, public involvement and public opinion research strategies, techniques, formats and platforms and how to apply them, especially in a municipal environment.
      Knowledge of government systems, processes and procedures.
      Knowledge of public communication plan development and the production of support materials.
      Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
      Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, various boards and commissions, other departments and staff
      Ability to make public presentations in an organized and understandable manner
      Ability to express decisions and reason through both verbal and written communication
      Able to maintain confidentiality and produce high quality, accurate work adhering to strict timelines

      SALARY: $25 per hour
