Diagnoses disorders, including nature and extent, and determines the appropriate course of treatment for the patient. Being a Psychologist - Ph.D uses talk therapy to treat patient illness or distress, cannot prescribe medication. Requires a PhD in clinical psychology. Additionally, Psychologist - Ph.D requires a valid state license to practice. Typically reports to a medical director. The Psychologist - Ph.D works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.     How you make a difference

    As a Psychologist in a correctional or detention facility, the role involves providing clinical mental health services to inmate patients. The Psychologist is responsible for providing clinical supervision and guidance to any mental health professionals assisting them. The Psychologist must provide mental health services that are consistent with their professional training and experience while meeting the expectations of the facility. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide clinical and consultation services consistent with professional standards and institutional policies and procedures. 
    • Conduct direct clinical services including diagnosis, treatment, psychological testing, and crisis intervention. 
    • Ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards of care and participate in quality improvement activities. 
    • Develop and implement goals and objectives for clinical services and assist in staff recruitment and selection. 
    • Notify appropriate personnel of serious incidents and provide professional education and staff development as needed. 

    Qualifications & Requirements

    Education

    • Doctorate in psychology and experience with mental health delivery systems

    Experience

    • Significant professional experience in the mental field that indicates knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders and psychological evaluation techniques, including psychological assessment instruments

    Licenses/Certifications

    • Licensed to practice psychology in the State of employment by the appropriate state licensing agency
