The Medical and Psychological Screening Division (MPSD) is seeking an experienced Psychologist to conduct preemployment psychological evaluations of peace officer candidates. Under the general direction of the Chief Psychologist in the Psychological Screening Program (PSP in the Medical and Psychological Screening Division) (MPSD) of the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), the Psychologist is responsible for applying psychological knowledge in a multi-step process to assess the psychological suitability of peace officer and non-peace officer candidates during the selection process. The Psychologist must conduct psychological suitability assessments using criteria set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) manual.
This position may extend up to 24 months or become permanent.

Describe how your professional experience will enable you to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively conduct preemployment psychological assessments of law enforcement candidates while working collaboratively as part of a team of psychologists. Please provide examples to illustrate your points.

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training requires peace officer candidates to be evaluated for explicit and implicit bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. Explain your understanding of how this is relevant to public safety and public trust.
