Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice. JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of Director of Behavioral Health Services with consultation from the Lead Psychiatrist, the Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric care to consumers in the Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic and Community Support Program in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
