Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice. The Child & Adolescent Staff Psychiatrist for Valley Medical Group (VMG) is responsible for providing and overseeing professional time with patients in Valley Health System as is required to maintain the quality of care in a professional manner to all patients seen. The individual is competent to care for patients in the Child/Adolescent (ages 3 to 18) age group. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of the Christian Health.
Must be a graduate of an accredited medical school, residency completed, and Board certified or Board eligible preferred.
