Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice. DePaul Community Health Centers (formerly Daughters of Charity Health Centers) operates multiple Federally Qualified Health Centers in the Greater New Orleans area. DCHC is committed to improving the health status of communities and continues a long tradition of health ministry. DCHC is seeking a full-time staff Psychiatrist to provide clinical care for Community Health Centers. The Psychiatrist treats or directs treatment of recipients, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications. The Psychiatrist operates as part of a team with other clinic providers and support staff in accordance with the scope of DCHC operations.
