Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     POSITION PURPOSE:
    The Staff Psychiatrist provides clinical services necessary to achieve the CMHC mission and objectives in collaboration with the Medical Director and staff. He/she supports the policies, rules and regulations of the facility. He/she provides and ensures that comprehensive psychiatric care is given to a panel of patients.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Experience:
    Graduate from an accredited Medical School or School of Osteopathic Medicine. Board Certified or board eligible psychiatrist. At least one-year experience in a Partial Hospitalization or outpatient setting, serving in an Administrative function preferred.

    Licensure / Certification:
    Active Florida State Board License and DEA Certification. Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

    Skills / Ability:
    Must possess the ability to perform as clinical staff, exhibits mature judgment maintains confidentiality and has strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrates expertise in-group, Family, and Individual Therapy; Utilization Management, Quality Assurance, and Performance Improvement activities.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS IS A EXEMPT POSITION)

    Supervise and evaluates psychiatric treatment provided in the program for all patients.

    Meets with Treatment Team (at least weekly) to discuss each patient admitted and treatment being provided.

    Signs off on approved treatment plans/reviews.

    Collaborates with attending physicians (at least weekly) to discuss patient, treatment team recommendations, and program integrity.

    Meet with Vice-President of Behavioral Health Services to discuss: planning and development of in-services & educational training for staff.

    Provides in-services at least monthly for staff and/or community.

    Meets with Behavioral Health Services Vice-President and/or Clinical Coordinator (at least weekly to discuss: new program track, maintenance of existing track, overall program development.

    Provide on site clinical supervision of clinical staff on a weekly basis for one hour.

    Provide on-site peer review utilization management on the quality and efficiency of clinical services and professional performance.

    Conduct random medical record reviews on a weekly basis (5 record or 10% of total census per week).

    Participates in the Committee of the Whole Meeting monthly, providing input and feedback as necessary.

    Participate in Performance Improvement Activities in collaboration with the Medical Director and/or Clinical Coordinator.

    Provides Community Services activities and Referral Development activities as needed in collaboration with the Medical Director and Community Services Representative.

    Provides review of clinical privileges of new physicians and orients new physicians to facility guidelines re: practice and treatment of patients.

    Provides emergency coverage after hours as needed.

    Collaborates with other facility Directors to discuss findings, problems, and program issues on a monthly basis.

    Develops and implements action plan as needed to correct problems as issues identified.

    Assist in periodic review and revision of Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulations.

    Abides by all safety and risk, infection control and other guidelines as required.

    Assists in ensuring State, Federal Regulations and Joint Commission Standards are met and maintained.

    Review Quality Care Guidelines/Patient Reminder print-out or electronically to identify overdue items (tests and other health maintenance procedures).

    Ensures that PFSS and Nursing staff appropriately address overdue health maintenance tests and procedures.

    Provides constructive feedback to PFSS and Nursing Staff when overdue items are not appropriately addressed.

    Demonstrates knowledge of CHI’s Quality of Care Indicators including the UDS Clinical Measures.

    Meets goals for Depression screening and prevalence in adults.

    Meets goals for other CHI Quality of Care Indicators pertinent to specialty.

    Facilitates access to Behavioral Health Services for patient referred from primary care.

    Participates in the development, and the assessment of the effectiveness, of practice guidelines to improve care outcomes.

    Effectively and promptly reacts to abnormal physical, lab or procedure findings based on evidence based guidelines.

    Effectively empowers patients to be involved in their care including involving patients in self management goal setting.

    Consistently completes documentation in the EHR while patient is in the office.

    Completes all patient orders for nursing care promptly and in the EHR as appropriate.

    Appropriately documents a patient’s visit based on the reason for visit (does not over-document or under-document).

    Effectively utilizes time spent with patient to address issues that cannot be effectively addressed by support staff.

    Must attend at least four (4) Grand Rounds each year.

    Maintains 80% productivity monthly.

    Reports to work on time and ready to work with minimal absenteeism.

    Completes B&E (billing and encounter) forms within the same day of intervention.

    Provides accurate and timely documentation in patient charts within the same day of intervention.

    Adheres to Confidentiality Policies and Procedures / HIPAA Regulations.

    Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
