A combined position focused on leading provider contracting, compensation, and on-boarding for Physician Enterprise, including the acquisition of new medical practices. Ensures that provider contracts are developed, renewed, and administered timely, conform to established policy, are consistent with business needs, and compliant with the principles of commercial reasonableness and fair market value. Works with key stakeholders to support strategic workforce plans and provider compensation arrangements that attract and retain the best talent while driving favorable strategic, operating and financial results. Reports directly to the EVP & Pres Physician Services with a dotted line to the Chief Physician Officer.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a SVP, Contracting and Compensation at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Physician Contracting
- SVP will be responsible for the central coordination of contracting activities among physician enterprise leadership and key stakeholders.
- Partners with Business Development team to establish and facilitate relationships between primary and specialty care physicians, physician organizations, surgeons and other physicians for HMH's service lines.
- Works jointly with the Legal and Compliance Department to assure compliance with physician contracting policies, including fair market value and commercial reasonableness. Develops analyses, summaries and other materials needed to facilitate required approvals.
- Accountable for development of appropriate business plans and term conditions for employed physicians & physician practice acquisitions.
- Ensures information flow to and from the PE on contracting, provider compensation and physician onboarding. Explores and researches new avenues to improve physician satisfaction.
- Leads the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement for provider onboarding across all business lines.
- Leads the Physician Contracting team on all aspects of contract due diligence and negotiation related to physician practices and partnership acquisition.
- Develops tools, processes, and policies to improve the cycle time for completing transactions and in a manner that is compliant with regulations and system policies.
- Leads in the execution of timely provider agreements and renewals according to relevant policies and procedures and in compliance with all pertinent regulatory requirements.
- Provider Compensation
- Lead, develop and manage provider compensation programs, ensuring pay programs that align with the market, business objectives and compliance.
- Monitor and analyze trends and issues related to provider compensation within the organization and the external market to ensure competitive practices in order to attract and retain key talent.
- Partners with SVP, COO, Physician Services division on budget performance.
- PE Chief of Staff
- Drive collaboration and communication with executives in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation.
- Serving as the liaison to assure that all matters are communicated and reported appropriately, internally and externally to the Physician Enterprise division.
- Understanding organizational policies and procedures necessary to ensure appropriate decision-making protocols are followed.
- Analyzing and interpreting metrics and developing recommendations to improve processes / performance.
- Acting as the EVP, President's representative and ambassador to external constituents as directed.
- Tracking, monitoring, and following of the progress of projects, action items, and strategies that emanate from the EVP, President, and Chief Physician Executive.
- Initiating subsequent follow-up meetings and communication for key stakeholders, as directed.
- Oversee strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution under the guidance of leadership and departmental heads.
- Lead executive team members in determining and prioritizing business strategies.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- MBA, or Master's degree
- Minimum of 10 years of experience negotiating physician contracts
- Strong expertise/knowledge of legal constraints, risk management, due diligence process, financial options, etc.
- Strong capability in strategy development, including meaningful analytical tools and methodologies; ability to develop analytically rigorous, commercially sound new business recommendations and articulate clear and compelling business discernments
- Ability to develop strong affinity with physicians and practices
