Property Casualty Underwriting Director directs and oversees the property/casualty insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups. Ensures the quality and integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Property Casualty Underwriting Director develops guidelines and procedures regarding risk exposure, application renewal, acceptance, modification, and denial. Manages staff of property/casualty underwriters at the organization. Additionally, Property Casualty Underwriting Director provides assistance to underwriters on more complex applications. Has extensive knowledge of the underwriting discipline. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires certification as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). Typically reports to top management. The Property Casualty Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Property Casualty Underwriting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Summary

    Sells insurance to new and current clients by performing the following duties. 


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Client/Policy Services 

    Responsibilities include: 

    • Gaining a thorough knowledge of the client’s overall business, including individual concerns. 
    • Analyzing client’s insurance and risk needs by making observations, identifying objectives and developing strategies.  
    • Directing sales function in the placement of coverages, including the negotiation of coverages and premiums with underwriters.  
    • Helping policyholders settle insurance claims in the event of a loss.  
    • Anticipating future needs and calls on established clients to renew and upgrade accounts.  
    • Developing long-term relationships with clients and underwriters.  


    40% 

    Prospecting & Accomplishment of Annual Goals 

    Responsibilities include: 

    • Performing prospecting necessary to achieve new business goals set by the Personal Lines Manager.  
    • Determining avenues to achieve sales goals (may include cold calling, referral opportunities, and association/industry involvement) 
    • Ensuring collection of premiums.  
    • Taking ownership over accounts.

    Education and/or Experience 

    Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or three to five years of insurance experience and/or business sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
