Project Management Director develops and directs project management operations and strategic planning to meet organizational goals. Provides overall strategic governance for projects by establishing standards, processes, and tools used for effective project delivery. Being a Project Management Director establishes methodologies to set productivity and quality targets and to assess results for all projects. Responds to escalated project issues that may impede project delivery and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Project Management Director monitors and analyzes project metrics to identify weaknesses or problems and to propose operational improvements and cost savings for future projects. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a project management certification. Typically reports to top management. The Project Management Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     The Director, Project Management leads a team of Project Managers, ensuring successful and on-time delivery of projects. This role is responsible for project management leadership from development through commercial launch. The Director, Project Management guides projects through the company commercialization process including coordination among multiple internal departments and external customer counterparts including R&D, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Regulatory and Manufacturing. The position is responsible for managing the execution of tasks by multiple project leaders and contributors.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    • Oversee product development and commercialization strategy using Stage Gate process to achieve successful on-time launch for new products.
    • Assign and oversee projects, targeting specific business unit goals and objectives, while strengthening consumer and customer satisfaction.
    • Approve project timelines for new projects including overseeing responses to customer requests for information (RFIs) and ensure timely and efficient execution of projects.
    • Manage/facilitate complex programs and projects.
    • Collaborate with project and department leaders in the planning and execution of project tasks from ideation to commercialization.
    • Coordinate and manage program team meetings including documentation of executed tasks, action items, and program governance.
    • Publish monthly program goal achievement and financial growth achievements.
    • Identify, assign, and train project leaders for projects including acting as the project manager for critical projects.
    • Implement project management best practices and associated tools including the development of internal systems, both manual and digital.
    • Collaborate with internal departments, using a cross-functional team approach to maximize communication and resources to operate as effectively as possible while ensuring successful project development and execution.
    • Manage issues arising from program execution including escalation internally and externally.
    • Evaluate past program and project execution and achievement of expected goals.

    People Leader Responsibilities


    The Director, Project Management carries out People Leader Responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:

    • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and mentor department staff, evaluate staff performance, and develop goals and objectives to create an empowered high-performance team and cultivate top talent.
    • Define onboarding and training programs that ensure staff are consistently operating to current best approaches or improving on them.

    Required Qualifications


    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in business or a technical field.
    • 10 years of project management and/or account management experience.
    • 10 years’ of progressive leadership experience, including some direct supervisory experience
    • Experience managing a Stage Gate process for new product introductions.
    • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software, such as Workfront or Microsoft Project.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and PLM tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy.
    • Detail-oriented, highly motivated, self-starter with relentless determination.
    • Demonstrated ability to creatively approach challenges and opportunities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Preferred Qualifications


    • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) or related certification.
    • Familiarity with pharmaceutical sector and management of healthcare projects.
    • Combined experience in project management, account management, business development, supply chain management, and/or research & development.
    • Experience managing a matrixed organization (multiple decision makers).
    • Experience applying Lean principles.
