  • JOB SUMMARY: 

    Under this position, the employee will, under only general supervision from the Project Executive, exercise independent judgment and discretion to manage the on and off-site execution of daily project requirements and activities, while flexibly responding to customer demands.    Utilizing sound project management principles, practices and techniques, this position will manage the required day to day project activities. Responsible for financial results of projects and activities of a portfolio of projects as assigned. Responsibilities will include maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction while balancing the project demands and financial goals.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The Project Manager is expected to use independent judgment and discretion in representing the Company. He/she is expected to show a high level of commitment and involvement with his/her work and the Company’s business.

    • The Project Manager utilizes and coordinates staff from all departments, as needed, for each project. During the life of a project, the Project Manager manages and supervises employees assigned to the project.
    • The Project Manager is the single source of responsibility to the Company and the customer. 
    • Flexibility / Diversity – Varying work in varying locals. Teams can be formed and reformed to meet the requirements of special projects. 
    • Perform all functions required to promote and finalize sales including concept engineering, complete estimates, written proposals, review contracts and direct meetings. 
    • Supervise the Company’s activity from inception of sales to successful job completion.
    • Provide supervision, leadership and coordination of all the Company’s departmental efforts including Engineering, Purchasing, Accounting, Construction, and Service during project construction, all in a timely manner.
    • Prepare budget projections and control costs within agreed upon limits. 
    • Provide letters, proposals, memos, contracts, change orders, strategies, etc. for good business procedures and legal protection.
    • Be actively involved in recruiting, training, coaching, and mentoring. 
    • Gain acceptance of installations with reasonable profits. 
    • Maintain cordial, professional relationships with all clients, vendors, subcontractors, and the industry.
    • Attend Company Project Management Sales and Construction Meetings. 
    • Schedule and coordinate pre-construction job meetings with department heads and supervisors. 
    • Contribute and be part of special studies, committees, etc., to advance the Company’s technical abilities in engineering, planning, and estimating, installation procedures, etc. 
    • All special assignments as directed by Management to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals.
    • Develops personal intellectual and technical product knowledge specific to the needs of the business and that of specific projects.
    • Manages, supports, mentors, and develops Jr level Project Engineers as assigned.
    • Supports a portfolio of multiple ongoing projects throughout the project life cycle while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction, financial goals and quality.
    • Under general supervision, develops and updates project implementation plans, coordinating resources to insure timely and cost-effective installation and completion of assigned projects or tasks.
    • Manages and provides documentation for the project file including correspondence, requests for information, change orders, logs, and project schedules.
    • Change-order management and upselling of scope is a requirement of this position.
    • Supports the engineering design process to include coordination with controls engineering team activities.  Will provide input for configuration, design and engineered systems in the most cost-effective manner while maintaining quality and ensuring customer satisfaction.
    • Manages and oversees project construction for compliance with specifications, codes, material, installation techniques, safety activities and Sunbelt standards.\Manages material procurement process for the projects assigned.  May select and order appropriate materials.  Maintains and monitors material usage, cost, and inventory control. Obtains lead time discounts when possible.
    • Develops and maintains internal project construction schedules relative to our scope of  work utilizing 3rd party software programs such as MS Project as required.
    • Manages, supports and provides oversight to all 3rd party commissioning requirements on assigned projects.
    • Plans and monitors commissioning process and checkout of the system before release to the owner/operator.  Ensures job completion documentation is complete.
    • Properly assigns technical resources for problem resolutions on projects as necessary.
    • Proactively evaluates potential problems on the job and initiates action to limit negative outcomes.  Reviews customer’s systems during installation and, if needed, points out other areas of improvement resulting in value added change orders.  Provide estimates for additional work for customers with the help of the project manager. 
    • Coordinates on-site visits for service personnel and ensures transition to service is 
    •   achieved.
    • Ensures owner/operator is familiar with and has been trained on the total system.  In addition, provides proper project closeout documentation and/or manuals for system operations.
    • Develops and maintains viable relationships with customers, prime contractors, subcontractors, and trade personnel.  Attends job progress meetings as necessary and provides detailed instructions to and interfaces with installers and subcontractors.
    • Must have a basic level of understanding of the control products and user interfaces represented by the Company or acquire these skills through self-directed training.
    • Responsible for practicing safe work habits and participates in office safety program requirements and that of any specific safety requirements of all assigned projects.
    • Attends and successfully completes OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 safety training classes. Will adhere to all Company and site-specific safety standards & requirements and have a high degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.
    • Takes personal responsibility for the successful completion of any assigned formal training and any ongoing development program activities.
    • Participates in the ongoing personal development program with other engineers for processes, product and systems knowledge required of the business.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Construction Management is preferred and/or 10-15 years of related work and engineering experience in the Controls or Construction Industry.
    • Familiar with construction trade labor practices.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office, Windows & MS Project.  Basic TCP/IP network structure and web navigation are desired.
    • Must be highly organized and possess the ability to work in a high paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet the schedules given by Sunbelt leadership.
    • Demonstrates effective work delegation techniques and can provide constructive work instructions to Sunbelt, subcontractor, and other vendor personnel. 
    • Understands and demonstrates effective coaching and just-in-time performance management for subordinate staff. 
    • Has the ability to operate independently and autonomously and take ownership of all assigned taskss
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to execute their work to ensure high customer satisfaction. 
    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are a requirement of this position.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand, use hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone, talk and hear.

    Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

    The employee must possess the ability to navigate the complexities of a construction site while working on site and practicing the site safety requirements and policies of the Company.
