    Job Summary

    On-site campus Junior Project Manager to provide management and guidance for construction renovation projects. Projects are primarily on the main campus site and typically work a standard Monday through Friday schedule.

    Reporting to the Chief Planning Officer, the Junior Project Manager provides management and input for capital planning, design and construction efforts to plan and implement major and minor capital projects, deferred maintenance, critical infrastructure, and repair and alteration projects for Sonoma State University. The Junior Project Manager leads project(s) from start to implementation: leads efforts with development of planning, design, construction documents, permit processes, construction/implementation and closeout of assigned projects.

    Key Qualifications

    This position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of experience involving planning, designing, supporting and/or managing construction projects. Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Design, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Practical knowledge and understanding with California Building Code and all required reporting agents (for example State Fire Marshal, ADA, Army Corp Engineers, CEQA,MRB, SRB, LEED, ADA). Public works and/or California State University standards, guidelines, processes, procedures, and terminology highly preferred.

    Proficient in using standard office equipment, intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. Knowledge of Google Suite, project management systems, scheduling systems AutoCAD, BlueBeam, computerized facilities management software and systems and PeopleSoft preferred.

    Additional qualifications include:

    • Project management knowledge pertaining to construction projects including the ability to learn and effectively apply those standards, guidelines, processes, procedures and terminology.
    • Ability to effectively apply the California Building Code with regard to project planning, design, review and implementation.
    • Practical understanding of construction documents, specifications and construction processes.
    • Effective leadership to oversee and implement complex projects with a diverse team.
    • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas, codes, standards and instructions.
    • Must be able to work in a team environment and maintain positive relationships.
    • Must have a commitment to high standards of safety, compliance with state safety laws, and university’s safety policies.

    Salary and Benefits

    Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $7,172 to $8,025 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.

    This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
